Mole Sculpture

From $380.00

The text you provided describes a research and development project called "Mole," initiated in 2013 as part of the MA in Fine Arts program at Kingston University in England. The purpose of this project was to discover traditional craft techniques and processes for a contemporary approach. The research, titled "Growing Complexity," was based on the observation of nature, particularly its complex structures, rich in rhythm and collectivity. The craftwork derived from this observation of natural structures that humans benefit from, copy, recreate, and evolve, attempting to explain through mathematical geometry and an inevitable attraction to touch.

The artwork presents itself almost like a sequenced biomimicry in volumes and depressions of ribbons that evolve modularly into a "block" with quadrangular and rectangular profiles, organically extruded into an infinite link. It is an entity that nature did not produce but taught. The artwork, while static in the photo, invites touch, is corporeal, and can be carefully manipulable. Handcrafted, the artwork represents a soft and visceral geometry of colors and strips of different densities that fit together in continuous movement. It is a synthetic and "living" organism.
