Mel Table
Dedicated to Melina, the table draws inspiration from the fluidity and viscosity of honey. The elliptical geometry of the tabletop, with rounded corners, rises above an organic, undulating, and asymmetrical base. Each face of the base offers a unique perspective of the whole composition. As one walks around the table, it reveals the sensation of the moment when a spoon is about to swirl the honey before it falls, as if the form is flowing from one side to the other of the base.
The base is constructed using the strip planking technique, commonly used in canoe building. It involves using strips with male and female half-circle notches, allowing them to curve and connect, resulting in a smooth, homogeneous, and durable surface.
